DECEMBER 2019

A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR SCOTT

Church Family,

Hopefully you enjoyed your Thanksgiving and survived Black Friday! I don’t know why I am surprised, but Christmas seems to come more quickly every year! This Sunday, we will begin celebrating Advent.

The Advent season is an opportunity for us to reflect on the coming of Jesus over 2,000 years ago. Christianity is unique in that we have a God who actually came down to us – He stepped into the brokenness of this world. As a result, He understands everything we go through, and the good news is, He continues to step in. He steps into our grief and offers hope. He steps into our fear and offers peace. He steps into our shame and offers joy and love. These are the truths we are going to celebrate this Advent season.

To help us more fully experience the joy of that reality, we’ve created an Advent guide filled with devotions, Scripture readings, and more. I hope you and your family will take advantage of this resource! In addition, I would encourage all of us to spend some time this Advent season reflecting on this question: “What area(s) of my life do I need Jesus to step into?” Christmas reminds us that He has and that He will.

He is the reason we celebrate at Christmas. O come let us adore Him!

Pastor Scott

P.S. We just concluded our “All the Saints” sermon series, and the final two sermons in the series were vision sermons. It is exciting to think about where the Lord is leading us as a church! If you missed either of these sermons, I would encourage you to listen to hear Curtis’ vision for us Journey-wide and my vision for us at West County.

Step into this Advent season with us through a 24-day devotional resource we’ve created for individuals and families! It’s a companion guide to our Advent sermon series, “He Stepped In,” including daily readings, stories, devotions, worship songs and more. We invite you to go deeper with us as we consider the hope and healing available to us because of Jesus’ birth and presence. You can also access the devotional on The Journey St. Louis app!

West County's Affordable Christmas is right around the corner, but you can still participate! We need all donations to the church by Wednesday at noon.

Open Table is an opportunity to embody love and demonstrate hospitality. It encourages a continued mindset of open tables and open hearts, and is a way to faithfully live out being the family of God.

Please join us on Christmas Eve to worship and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ! There are three service times from which to choose: 2:30, 4, and 5:30 p.m.

Childcare will be available at the 2:30 and 4 p.m services for our Nursery Suite, Jr. Toddler, and Toddler rooms. These two services are family-friendly, incorporating a special children's sermon, additional music, and offering a bag of activities for children.

The 5:30 p.m. service will be a traditional, candlelight service

Whether a volunteer calls out sick or we have several children on an overflow sheet, there are times when a last-minute rescue team is needed in Journey Kids on a Sunday morning!

So, if you see JK 29 on the sanctuary projection screen, and you're willing to help, please come to the Kiddie Coral for additional instructions.

Are you, or someone you know, looking for a fun, part-time job? We are now hiring an administrator for Journey Kids.
