Hello Tower Grove Family!

I feel very privileged to say those words about our church. There is a great love I have for you and that I have also received from you. To be a family together each week is one of the greatest joys of my life. But, The Journey is bigger than just Tower Grove. We are one church in many locations! With multiple locations around greater St. Louis, The Journey is able to do more together as one.
The challenge of being one church in many locations is that we do not always get to be and worship with members and attenders from the various locations. So, I invite you to attend our upcoming One Church Worship Night on Sunday, September 30, from 4-7 p.m. at The Journey Hanley Road. This will be a wonderful time to be one as we gather together!
We will have a food truck lineup where you can purchase food and meet others from the various Journey locations. After dinner, we will join in celebration and worship to enjoy grace as one church in the Hanley Road sanctuary. This is a significant way that our city can see how Christians embody love. For more information, please watch the video by Pastor Curtis below and go to
I look forward to seeing you there!
Pastor John

What is your job or vocation outside of the church?
I am an RN, “professional” Grandma, and volunteer.

What are your spiritual gifts?
My spiritual gifts include compassion for others, cheerful willingness to serve,
and passion for helping people.

Tell me something about your family of origin.
I was raised Southern Baptist and was fortunate to have attended a church that
preached the gospel and had a wonderful youth program.

Why did you start serving in this role?
I started attending The Journey Hanley Road in 2004 by invitation of my daughter who was a student at Washington University. I worked with the children's program and hospitality. When the church moved to the Tower Grove location, I even cut the grass for a while! The last few years, I had to step back as I had worsening lung problems.

Can you tell me about a moment you remember really seeing God’s presence?
In November, I received a double lung transplant including a week in the ICU with complications. As I laid there debilitated, unable to speak, hooked up to so many things, I cried out to Jesus in complete surrender. I felt his presence as though he was holding me in his arms. His grace and love brought me through it and my life will never be the same. I feel so close to him and grateful for each day he gives me. Now here I
am today able to serve him.

What would you like people to know about serving in this role
I recently began volunteering at The Journey Tower Grove offices. I'm part of a great team with Andrew Jones and Lynn Mulderig scheduling our greeters and coffee team for the worship services. Everyone is so friendly and willing to help. I have found that our church leaders are just as welcoming in person as they are in leading the services. I'm so grateful for the people who serve with me. Our team is on the front line of the worship experience. I feel good about getting our people greeted and caffeinated with warm smiles and hot coffee. Please come join us!

Where did you work/what did you do before coming to The Journey?
I've had all kinds of different jobs – educator, social worker, funeral director, healthcare worker, business manager, church planter, and pastor.

Can you give me a brief description of your role here?
I provide pastoral care to worshippers on weekends and support Tower Grove staff specifically.

Tell us a little about your family.
Estella is my great wife and marriage partner of 36 years. We have worked in a marriage ministry for 35 years and have two adult children who live out of town.

St. Louis city is my hometown

Favorite food?
Favorite food is dressing at Thanksgiving along with mac n cheese.

Favorite sports team?
Lifelong Cardinals fan – six decades!

What’s the last book you read?
Old Paths, New Power by Daniel Henderson. Best book on prayer I've read in a long time.

If you could visit anywhere in the world that you’ve never been, where would you go?
Wherever my travel-passionate wife wants to go. Probably Italy.

We believe the Bible clearly communicates baptism as a vital step of discipleship and obedience to Christ. The sacrament is a symbol of the washing away of the old self and commitment in front of fellow believers that you have been made new by Jesus and are committed to following him.

Visit our website to watch story videos on the impact baptism has had on the lives of people in our church.

Stay tuned for opportunities to register for this exciting step of faith!
