A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR JOHN

Tower Grove Family,

As we move towards the end of our ministry and fiscal year, it is worth reflecting and celebrating the wonderful ways that God is working in and through this church to see our city awakened to and transformed by the love of Jesus. Across all Journey locations this past ministry year, we celebrate together as One Church:

  • Over 200 new members
  • 37 baptisms
  • 48 members sent on international missions
  • Over 600 kids weekly in Journey Kids
  • More than 3,800 counseling sessions at Karis House
  • Over 1,500 people involved in community groups
  • And over 3,100 people attending weekend services weekly across our locations

At Tower Grove, this has been made possible through countless volunteer hours and the opportunity to support missional and communal ministries such as Campus Outreach, Urban K-Life, The Covering House, and Mission St. Louis. As One Church, we have sought to live out our mission to Enjoy Grace, Embody Love, and Engage Culture. Your presence, service, giving, love, and participation in that mission has been a beautiful mark of your discipleship and following after Jesus.

We know that the Lord has great plans for The Journey, and we are excited to see what He has in store for us next year as we continue to come together as One Church to move the mission forward. Your year-end gift allows us to end this fiscal year well and start next year strong as we aspire together to see our city awakened to and transformed by the love of Jesus.

Our prayers and plans include:

  • Equipping and sending more church members on local and international missions
  • Partnering with other ministries and organizations in St. Louis
  • Investing in our next generation through Journey Kids and Journey Students
  • Engaging the members of our church more intentionally so that we can truly be a body together

Through your prayers and generosity, together, we can continue to move our mission forward. If you have not given before, would you join us by giving for the first time? If you do not give regularly, would you consider joining us in our continuing efforts through recurring giving? And, if you are giving consistently, would you prayerfully consider giving above and beyond your normal giving with a generous fiscal year-end gift by June 30? To give go to thejourney.org/give

I am looking forward to the new ministry year together! God bless!

WHAT WILL IT PROFIT A MAN? SUMMER SERMON

We lack nothing when we're willing to trust God with everything. Watch the full sermon from Curtis Gilbert at thejourney.org/what-will-it-profit.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: DAVID WAKEMAN
What is your job or vocation outside of the church?
I am a software engineer for Boeing, working on advanced systems and solving complex problems in simulations and flight software.

What are your spiritual gifts?
My spiritual gifts fall in the spectrum of wisdom, knowledge, discernment, and then a stretch from my personality turns out to be “helps” and hospitality, which is beneficial in serving on the coffee team.

Share something about your family of origin.
Both of my grandfathers were pastors of churches, faithful ministers, exemplified by lives of prayer, Bible study, and love for God and people. I wish I had known my grandfathers longer beyond childhood to glean more from their wisdom.

Why did you start serving in this role?
I had served in the coffee ministry at my previous church in Seattle, and being a new member of The Journey, I knew that serving coffee, especially as a greeter at the coffee station, would help me meet many of you and acclimate to feeling at home in St. Louis and The Journey.

Who has impacted you while serving in this role?
You have! Many of you come up and thank us for the coffee and how that small act of service provides such a benefit in being comfortable (and awake) in the service. Our team exhibits dedication and servant leadership which inspires me to excel in the same.

Can you tell me about a moment you remember really seeing God’s presence?
As I participate and gain practice in leading a small group Bible study at my work and community group at The Journey, I see God's presence when discussing Scripture with the Word coming alive as connecting verses and life examples come to mind, leading to real understanding, application and relationship with God and others.

How has serving in this role grown you?
I am learning practically what servant leadership looks like, and how to foster community through many ways of communicating the gospel and being the hands and feet of Jesus.

What would you like people to know about serving in this role?

The coffee team is a great way to serve tangibly, with roles that are both behind the scenes and visible, serving as an extension of the welcome and greeting team.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT: JOSHUA RAGLAND
Where did you work before coming to The Journey?
I worked as a carpet salesman in the multi-family market.

Can you describe your role at The Journey?
I am responsible for all the daily ins and outs of disciple-making in the middle school and high school students at Tower Grove.

This involves building curriculum, planning events and worship services each week, and discipling our leaders to be more like Christ.

Tell us a little about your family:
I have been married to a wonderful woman from Little Rock, Arkansas, named Kimberly for 4 years. We live in South City in the North Hampton area. We love the outdoors, St. Louis, the Denver Broncos, and our 9 year old Husky dog Sam...oh and we have this HUGE crush on a really famous guy named Jesus; we should all hang out soon!

Hometown:

Favorite food:
Chicken Shwarma from The Vine on Grand...LITERALLY.

Favorite sports team:
Denver Broncos

What’s the last book you read:
It Happens After Prayer by H.B. Charles, Jr.

If you could visit anywhere in the world that you’ve never been, where would you go:
Above the Arctic Circle to hunt!

REVIVE THRIFT STORE NEWS
The Revive Thrift  Shop has been a part of the Mission St. Louis family for the last 4+ years. During that time, the shop raised money to support the after school program and the job leadership program at Mission St. Louis. Due to the change in the retail (brick and mortar) environment and all the new programs added at Mission St. Louis, a difficult decision was made not to renew our 5-year lease. Everyone at the Revive Thrift Shop wishes to thank The Journey members for their great support. Stop in for the Going Out Of Business Sale and take advantage of 35% off all items in the store.

UPCOMING EVENTS & NEWS

We believe that Christian faith is about relationships. It is about our relationship with God and our relationships with each other.

Becoming a member of a church is a way that we identify with other people who have committed themselves to living as a follower of Jesus. It is a way of saying, “This is who I am and this is what matters to me.”

Thank you for considering this next step to becoming a member at The Journey. This class will be on Saturday, July 7, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., and will be held in Reber Space. Lunch will be provided, and childcare is available for those who register online.

During the month of July, we are adapting our rhythms in Journey Kids to allow for more focused time on family, relaxation, and rest for a few weeks this summer.

In July, Journey Kids will not meet during weekend services. Instead, kids will join their families in corporate worship.

We’re pausing in our Journey Kids programming this next month for several reasons:

  • Kids can worship with their families and the larger church body
  • Our church has the opportunity to worship with our kids, too!
  • This will allow our Journey Kids team to rest and be refreshed to serve this fall
  • This will also give us space to prepare and reset for the coming school year

Weekend services will be kid-friendly, including focused times of learning from God’s word, specifically for our kids, and resources available (coloring sheets, kids sermon notes) to engage children during the service.

While Journey Kids lessons and activities will not be taking place, we will offer childcare for children 1-2 years old only during both Sunday morning services (childcare will not be available during Saturday night services).

So, please come and worship together! We’re excited to see how God uses this month to grow our kids, our families, and our church's love for our kids!
