South County November Newsletter
Jesus says to his disciples, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).
Where does that light shine bright? How will others see it? Jesus answers those questions: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:34-35).
Our love for one another is the light of the gospel for others — a self-denying love for others that provokes questions that can only be answered by the work of Jesus. As you read through this newsletter, ask the Lord how you can be a light in our church, our city, and around the world.
Beginning on November 12th, we’re going to begin a three-week series on where we believe God is leading us as a church. We encourage you to make this series a priority and be here each week as we talk more about who we are and who we aspire to be.
By His grace and for His glory,
PS - Notice below that we will be taking a special offering for Mission: St. Louis this Sunday!
Mercy Offering | This Weekend
This weekend we will be taking the Mission: St. Louis Mercy Offering. We have the opportunity as a church to be radically generous, knowing that our resources directed to Mission: St. Louis helps provide healing to needs in our city. Make your gift in one of three ways:
1. Participate in the Mercy Offering at The Journey South County on October 29th.
2. Mail your gift to Mission: St. Louis at 3108 N Grand Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63107.
3. Make a gift online and write “Offering” in the Tribute line.
It's the last call for our all-church surveys!
If you're over 18 and haven't taken our survey (even if a spouse or family member has), we want to hear from you so we can serve you better! Additionally, if you took our first survey, but have yet to take the followup survey, please take a moment to fill it out. We appreciate you taking the time to help us know you better!
Throughout our Facing God series we've been focusing on a different aspect of God's character, wrestling through our own stories and seeking to worship Him in new and deeper ways. Catch up on sermons and episodes of Pastor Curtis' mid-week series Face to Face on our website.

Why Do We Sing?
Every week we gather together as a family on Sunday with one goal in mind: We want to meet with God…in a very real, very tangible way. We don’t want to merely hear ABOUT him…we want to EXPERIENCE him! One of the ways we do this is through singing together. But, why do we sing? Because as we sing, we’re engaged both horizontally & vertically: As our voices unify, we are encouraged & uplifted by one another horizontally, while simultaneously our hearts are vertically being filled with God’s presence & power to do what he’s called us to do in our communities and our city!
The Worship Ministry at The Journey South County has a unique opportunity each week to lead the church in this, and we want you to be a part! If you sing, play an instrument, or are gifted in running sound or technology, we are in need of your talents to make much of Jesus! Whether you’re a beginner to playing music or a seasoned professional on the microphone, we have a place for you.
For more information, reach out to Corbin Petersen at firstname.lastname@example.org to see how you can be involved!
Journey Kids is a community serving together to cultivate the gospel in the next generation and we currently have needs for more volunteers. As we move into our new building and new neighborhood, we will have many wonderful opportunities to welcome new families and we want to be as prepared as we can to make sure that we do it well!
Why Journey Kids? Although we believe that parents are the primary disciple makers in the lives of their children, we know that it is a privilege to help in the process of discipleship. We want our kids to treasure Jesus above else.
Right now we have a need for 5-6 people to join us in our infant through toddler-age rooms.
If you're interested in serving once every 3-4 weeks, please contact Laura Lane.
