There is much to be thankful for as we approach this holiday season! In writing this update, I would like to spend a few moments reflecting on my gratitude for the women in our church. This gratitude, while I can grow in expressing more often, is sadly necessitated by an audio clip that has been circulating throughout the internet and social media in recent weeks.

The audio clip has left me increasingly angry. While it initially seems to be intended as a humorous exchange about theological differences between those on stage, it quickly became a character assassination of a fellow sister in Christ. This is not okay and is not something that I, or our church, can stand by. As children of God we can, and must, do better than this!

While anger is probably the primary way I have reacted to this clip, I also find myself experiencing gratitude. It is for this reason I now speak directly to our women at The Journey Metro East:

I am truly grateful for you who are doing Kingdom work in our midst. It saddens me to think about how comments such as these may discourage and alienate many of you. We, as a church, are blessed to have so many of you seeking to be faithful to how God has created you and who He is calling you to be. When you are faithful in this, it isn’t exclusively for your personal benefit but it is also for the benefit of our church and the greater Kingdom of God! God has called both women and men to fulfill their callings together to share the love of Christ with those in our midst.

Over the years, I have been personally impacted through my work, with and under, the leadership of women in our church. In my experience, they have been one of the ways God has grown my understanding and experience of His grace and mercy. Having worked alongside of these women, I have also gained a varied and better understanding of how to be a better leader myself. These experiences confirm for me the truth that Paul writes in 1 Corinthian 12:24-27. I can best be faithful to my role as a member of the body of Christ when the men and women around me are also able to faithfully fulfill their role according to their gifting.

I want to end by calling you, those who call The Journey Metro East home, to engage in this process with me. Brothers, we must welcome, encourage and build up our sisters to be faithful to whom God is calling them to be. It is only in doing so that we can fully embody who God is calling us to be as a church.

In gratitude,

The Peace God Gives

Happy November Journey family!

Fall is a season that goes by quickly. No sooner have summer vacations and activities ended, than school resumes, schedules fill up, and the holidays swiftly approach.

We shared with you in September an update on our senior pastor search and Curtis’ candidacy for this role. While there is continued progress being made in the interview process with Curtis, there is not much new to share about the search at this time. We ask that you please continue to pray for Curtis and the team – and it is our hope to provide an update to you in the next few weeks.

For a long time, it’s been a conviction of the Board of Elders to communicate more consistently with local churches. What we recognize is that the majority of our communications to you focus on more formal updates about the life of our church. It is our desire, at other times, to have the opportunity to share with you what God is putting on our hearts as a means of encouragement to you. Continue reading

Open Table is an opportunity to embody love and demonstrate hospitality within our church family and community. It allows both hosts and guests to connect over a holiday meal, encourages a continued mindset of open tables and open hearts, and is a way to faithfully live out being the family of God in obedience to our Savior, who commands us to embody love to those within the body of Christ and those outside the church.

We want you to know that no matter who you are or what season of life you are in, you have something to bring to the table and will be a blessing to those around you!

Learn more or register to host or join a table on on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day!

This Sunday (November 3), Daylight Savings Time ends! Don't forget to turn your clocks back Saturday night for an extra hour of sleep!
We would love for you to join us Sunday, November 3, for our all-church prayer night at 5:30 p.m. This is an informal event where we pray for personal, church, and global things going on in the world around us. Kids are welcome to participate!

We are collecting Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes!
This month, Journey Kids has invited families to participate together in Operation Christmas Child. If you have put a shoebox together, please return it by November 17. Boxes can be dropped off in either the Early Childhood lobby or at the table in the hallway of the elementary building.

Don't forget! Every shoebox needs a $9 donation to cover shipping costs. You can pay online and sign-up to follow your box, where you'll be able to see what country your box is delivered to. Or, you can include the $9 donation in the envelope provided inside the box.

This is a great opportunity for families to bless a child around the world with a shoebox full of toys, basic hygiene items, and school supplies at outreach events where the gospel is shared in their community! If you have questions email

The Journey Metro East is excited to host the 5th annual Christmas party for The Restore Network on Saturday, December 7, from 5-7 p.m. It's one of our favorite events as we get to provide a wonderful evening for the foster families in our county! There'll be a catered dinner, family photography, gifts, and lots of kid-friendly activities. Want to join in on the fun? There are a couple of different ways to get involved. For more information and to sign up, click here!

Each child in attendance will receive a gift during the party, and we've created an Amazon wishlist of gifts. Would you consider buying a gift or two to help make this party extra special? We are expecting close to 250 people this year! You can find the list here: Gift Amazon Wishlist

Thank you in advance for helping to provide our families with this special night!

What an incredible chili cook-off we had this past Sunday! If you weren't there, please congratulate Bob Hursey on his win!

As you can see, he is not new to winning the Chili Cook-Off. Way to go, Bob!
