A MESSAGE FROM ELDER CHAD
Hey Church!

As we get ready to jump into June, I want to take this opportunity to simply wish you a safe and fun summer. For my family, summer is an opportunity to spend more intentional time together without a busy school schedule to balance. We’re looking forward to reading books, spending time at the pool, riding bikes, and working on my tan (er—my sunburn…redhead, what can I say). For many of you, summer is an opportunity to travel and visit friends and family you haven’t seen in a while, go on a vacation or staycation, or climb a mountain (maybe). As such, we’ll no doubt miss seeing many of you over the coming Sundays but we want to celebrate your season of rest and rejuvenation.

The backbone of our church ministries is no doubt its volunteers but we recognize that volunteering is not always easy. There is a significant amount of sacrifice involved and, if we’re honest, it’s oftentimes without reward. For many of our volunteers, serving is an exhausting and out-of-your comfort zone experience. There’s never enough time in the day or week and giving up extra hours to serve on a day off isn’t always desirable (and oftentimes you find yourself serving each and every Sunday as the pool of volunteers ebbs and flows). However, your on-going commitment to serving, sharing, and living out the gospel is making a difference in the lives of others, and we are grateful for your service and sacrifice. Thank you.

As I reflect on all the transitions since last summer (i.e., NaHana taking over in Journey Kids, Pastor Charlie being selected and leading as the Metro East Lead Pastor), I look back with a personal feeling of satisfaction. Not because these transitions were easy, but because these transitions were the result of faithful prayer and obedience to God’s call for our church. It’s a living reminder to me of the power of prayer and how God is ever present and responsive. So, though many of you may not be able to attend every Sunday this summer, ALL of you can commit to faithfully praying over our church, its staff, congregation, and pastors. Let’s continue to ask God to be present in our church, to give rest and care to the staff and pastors, and to allow for The Journey to continue to make a difference in the lives of people who need to hear about Jesus. I invite all of you to join me in this endeavor.

As always, I am grateful to each and every one of you and am thankful for all you do for The Journey Metro East. For those traveling…be safe. And for everyone else, we’ll still be here on Sundays, and I look forward to worshipping with you this summer!

Peace!
Chad

SUMMER AT THE JOURNEY
We're launching into a new summer sermon series this week – looking at what it means to have a summer well spent. We'll focus on topics like rest, relationships, community, and more over the next couple of months. We're excited to see you this weekend as we dive into this new series!

One way we hope to lean into what it looks like to live an intentional lifestyle of rest and relationship is through community-building opportunities and experiences both at The Journey and across the St. Louis metro area. Here are some upcoming events – mark your calendars! View a full list of summer opportunities here.
Kingdom Sessions Release Concert | June 7, 8 p.m.
Tower Grove Worship Leader Russ Mohr is debuting "The Kingdom Sessions" album on June 7 at The Ready Room! Alethea Film Screening | June 21, 7-9:30 p.m.
The Journey is partnering with the Alethea Project, a new documentary screening series taking place in large evangelical churches across the United States. It seeks to use nonfiction film as a means to encourage productive, civil dialogue around difficult social topics, model bridge-building between churches and secular arts organizations, and grow appreciation for the art and craft of nonfiction film. We'll screen The Interrupters at The Journey Hanley Road in June! Stay after the film for a moderated discussion. Register today

Journey July
July at Metro East will be a time for us to simplify our services, events, and offerings to give rest to volunteers, especially those serving in Journey Kids. Our services during this month will be slightly shorter with worship that will engage the whole family. We will be having limited Journey Kids (ages 3 and under) during this month.

Summer Child Dedications
Child Dedication is a special time for parents and guardians to publicly announce their intention to raise their child(ren) in a way that teaches about God and honors Him.

The Journey recognizes that parents are responsible to raise the next generation to know the greatness of God. We dedicate our kids because we want to partner with our church family-making a commitment to raise our children in light of God’s promises. The Journey commits to support parents as they raise the next generation to love God.

On Sunday, June 30, The Journey Metro East will hold child dedications during the 10 a.m. service. There is a mandatory child dedication class on Sunday, June 23, after the 10 a.m. service. Please fill out the registration form HERE
