Hanley Road November Newsletter
When I am asked what it is happening at The Journey Hanley Road, I say, “something most rare and unique.” Then in an attempt to express the rarity, I usually follow with a question, “can you imagine orchestrating a church ‘replant’ whereby a Jewish Congregation and a Christian Congregation transact a building swap along with an agreement to share sacred space for eighteen months?”
Curiosity is the response. How can this happen? There is a refrain throughout the chapters of the book of Exodus that seems an apt answer to me — “that you may know that I am the Lord.”
Jesus pointed out to his followers the importance of interpreting the signs of the times. Our move North to our new building, at 829 N. Hanley Road, is occupying our top priorities this Fall. How do we respond to such a time? We attempt to do so by advancing five key priorities regarding our move:
- Consistent prayer
- Collective ownership of the move north
- Capturing the momentum within the Women’s Ministries
- Growing in our Hospitable Worship experience and teams
- Raising our cultural IQ
Each of these priorities have multiple action plans. How better to partner together than to engage in the worthy goals of following the Lord in this terrific endeavor. I’m asking you, our members and attenders, to “ponder anew what the Lord might do” by giving your support towards collective ownership of it all.
There are numerous ways to link arms — join a Sunday serving team, join a prayer gathering, participate in volunteer work days, attend planned events, dream of ways to serve our new neighborhood, invite people into our journey, be part of a community group, and so this list could double and keep doubling. Please reach out to Alison Funke (firstname.lastname@example.org) to get involved!
Be a part of a life-enhancing journey as we together strive to be a diverse community centered on Jesus Christ — a people group whose aims are to enjoy God’s grace, embody his love and engage our culture with his truth.
Pressing on to know the Lord!
We are very excited about the progress that is being made on our new building! In the last month, our volunteer teams have been hard at work prepping and painting our Journey Kids and Journey Students lobby and classrooms, our staff offices and tackling some landscaping projects. We've also had a skilled volunteer team partner with some of our Journey staff to demo and rebuild the pergola that faces Hanley Road. This move would not be possible without help from our congregation and many friends throughout our Journey family! There are still opportunities available to serve as an individual, family or community group. Feel free to contact Alison Funke (email@example.com) to set up a time to serve!
Our contractors have also been hard at work! Drywall has been hung, mudded and taped in the lobby and sanctuary. The baptistry has been installed and the stage structure has been built. The large beams in the sanctuary should be installed very soon and, bit by bit, the space is coming together and we are beginning to picture our people meeting together for coffee in the lobby and worshiping in the sanctuary. It is exciting and encouraging to spend time in prayers of expectation that God will use this space to bring people of all backgrounds together in His name. We are so looking forward to sharing this space together!
New Sermon Series | This Weekend
We highly encourage you to make church a priority over the next three weeks as we begin a new sermon series on where we believe God is leading us as a church!
It's the last call for our all-church surveys! If you're over 18 and haven't taken our survey (even if a spouse or family member has), we want to hear from you so we can serve you better! Additionally, if you took our first survey, but have yet to take the followup survey, please take a moment to fill it out. We appreciate you taking the time to help us know you better!
