Hey, Church!

I trust and pray that everyone’s New Year is off to a great start. It really is hard to believe that it’s already 2020! It’s been an eventful start for the Biehl household, as I’m fairly confident that we’ve cycled through just about every possible sickness there is; so if you’re looking for an immunity boost, swing on by and say hello.

Have you stopped to notice how many distractions there are on a given day? I mean, there is no shortage of better mousetraps and endless promises of a more efficient life—an app for just about everything and an even better app for everything else, a smart watch to track your steps/heart rate/calories/floors climbed, podcasts, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram, a constant stream of text messages, IMs, PMs, voice messages, video messages, status updates, memes, GIFs, emojis, and the list goes on and on. All of these things aren’t inherently bad, but if we’re not careful, it can certainly consume a day, overwhelm us, replace relationships and interactions, and become an enormous time-sucker. Acknowledging this as an area for self-improvement; I’m pumped to see the efforts of our church to collectively unplug. If you haven’t had a chance, I encourage you to check this out and join other Journey members and regular attenders for corporate and personal prayer and fasting over the coming weeks.

The reminder in all of this for me is that it can be a struggle balancing family, work, volunteering/serving hobbies, friendships, etc. I used to think of this as work-life balance, and I constantly struggled to keep everything in perfect harmony. Recently, however, I have grown to look at it from a new perspective. Namely, God places me and calls me into every moment for his glory. In order to be present and faithful, I need to be in each moment wholly. Honor God by being all in my job; honor God by being fully present and available to my family (unplug); honor God by being fully present in each and every moment—physically, mentally, spiritually—without distraction. There is a time and place to grow and steward how we do this, but availing yourself to each and every moment God places you in is honoring to him and, just maybe, honoring to those you share these moments with.

Black History Month

As we enter into this month, our desire is to Remind ourselves by learning about the past, considering its meaning, and reflecting on its impact; to Rejoice through celebration, honor, and worship; and to Respond by asking ourselves how what we now know should inform our choices today and tomorrow. Visit our website for specific ways to learn, celebrate, and engage with us!

Greetings from The Journey Board! We wish everyone a very happy, healthy 2020.
We have launched a new webpage that the Board hopes will provide better communication to all our Journey churches. You can find it here. We will post communications and other items of interest on the page as needed. We will also provide an archive of our older communications and board minutes.

Our goal in doing this is to better communicate with you and provide as much ongoing information and transparency to our congregations as possible.

Grace and peace,
Jeff Fox, on behalf of The Board of Elders

Come join us for an Ash Wednesday service on Wednesday, February 26th, at 6:30 p.m. with Hope Chapel. This day on the liturgical calendar marks a point of reckoning with our own mortality, our own frailty, and our need for a Savior who supersedes the grave.

On Sunday, February 23rd, The Journey Metro East will hold child dedications during the 10 a.m. service.

Child Dedication is a special time for parents and guardians to publicly announce their intention to raise their child(ren) in a way that teaches about God and honors Him.

The Journey recognizes that parents are responsible to raise the next generation to know the greatness of God. We dedicate our kids because we want to partner with our church family–making a commitment to raise our children in light of God’s promises. The Journey commits to support parents as they raise the next generation to love God.

Please register on the app or HERE.

We're looking forward to Family Sunday on February 23rd! All 4-year-olds through 5th graders are invited to attend worship with their family.

Journey Kids rooms will be open for infants through 3-year-olds.

Check out the song the children will be singing on Family Sunday. I know they will look forward to singing it!

Saturday, April 4th, The Journey Metro East will host our Annual Easter Egg Hunt! I would love to get a planning team together to plan for success. Please email me if you are interested and are full of any ideas for our Easter Egg Hunt 2020!

We are a community of flawed, imperfect people who show up each week because we recognize that we desperately need Jesus. If you are interested in membership at The Journey, please join us at our classes to learn more! There will be five classes total, beginning on February 2nd and ending on February 23rd. Each one is on a Sunday morning from 8:30-9:30 a.m. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact infome@thejourney.org.

NO CHURCH PRAYER! This month, we encourage you to hang out with your community group or neighbors to watch Super Bowl LIV. See you next month!

You are a vital part of this church family -- please come to hear updates, meet new people, eat, and learn about how we are seeking to enjoy grace, embody love, and engage culture. See you tomorrow!

We want to invite you to join us on February 8th for the first 2nd Saturday workday of the year! We're very excited to be working on the house that will be our new offices and training center for our students! We're planning on moving in the spring, so we need your help to get this project done! We'll be painting some areas in the house that still need some retouch as well as the playhouses that were built during the summer camp so we can put them up for sale. Apart from painting, we'll also be installing flooring and working on some electrical. So, if you are skilled in any of these, please join us that day! *Please bring a case of water. Lunch will be provided at noon.

If you’ve been with us for a few weeks, months, or even longer but would identify as feeling “new” to The Journey Metro East, this event is for you. Do you have questions about our ministries, our leadership, or our beliefs? These are the conversations we want to begin at our Newcomer Lunch.

Come join some of our staff and elders for a lunch after the service. We will meet in the multipurpose room.

February 15-March 28

The Journey's premarital ministry is hosting the spring session of Four Weeks to a Great Marriage this month at The Journey Tower Grove! The session consists of a series of four group classes. Couples are paired with a mentor couple who will walk through the program with them. The classes and mentoring are open to engaged and recently married couples. Learn more and register for our upcoming session!

These are two videos that God has used to help stir up and mobilize many saints to the ends of the earth. These videos help us get down to the root of a frequently asked question in the church: 'If there is so much need in our own backyards, then why do we need to go halfway around the world to reach others for Christ?' Both videos are very different: one relies much more on statistics, while the other relies more on telling a story through images and song. However, this is a good time to remind ourselves why we endeavor as a church to send 100 long-term missionaries to 10 places with little to no gospel access.

Global Frontier Missions "State of the World" Video

"Tears of the Saints" Nations Video with John Piper excerpts

Many videos seem to make us feel like we must go to the nations out of guilt or because of a certain logical appeal or some other motive. But there is NO stronger motive for going to the nations than, quite simply, Jesus Christ. The Scriptures remind us that He is worthy of more worship than He is now receiving, that He has commanded us to make disciples of all the people groups, that He has already ransomed a people for Himself from all the people groups, and that there is no greater joy in this life than being empowered by His Spirit to enjoy Him and obey Him!

Our prayer is that God uses these resources to stir your heart even more for the precious lost sheep He is calling to Himself from every tribe, tongue, and nation. Please join us in praying as a church for 10 church members whom the Holy Spirit is impressing upon to join our Mobilization Team's 9-month training group (starting in August) to be trained and sent overseas long-term! Might this even be you?

This is a great opportunity to connect with other families in our church.
