Exciting News! Senior Pastor Update

By The Journey on November 15th, 2019

Church Family,

Greetings in the name of Christ Jesus! We are grateful for each and every one of you who call The Journey home. As previously shared, we have been in a process of discerning God’s calling of a Senior Pastor over the last several months, as we’ve looked to our future at The Journey.

We are thoroughly delighted to introduce the new Senior Pastor of The Journey – Pastor Curtis Gilbert, his wife Shelly and their children, Caden and Chase.

Curtis was the first and only candidate that we interviewed, because as we listened to his heart and vision for our church and considered feedback from members, elders, and staff, it became abundantly clear that he was the man the Lord God has called to The Journey to lead, pastor, and shepherd us both now and for years to come.

We believe that his particular giftedness will lead us in pursuing our vision through intentional community engagement, the multiplication of disciples into leaders, and planting more churches for the glory of God and the good of us all.

Over the next several weeks, we want to create opportunities to both celebrate and pray for Curtis as a church. Curtis will be attending weekend services at each of our locations over the next several weeks, so you can personally offer him encouragement and prayer as he steps into this new role. Below are these dates:

  • Metro East | November 17
  • West County | November 24
  • Hanley Road | December 8
  • South County | December 15
  • Tower Grove | December 21 & 22

We are incredibly thankful to the members of our church who served on the Pastoral Transition Team for their hard work, dedication, interest, and care over many months. It would have been impossible to complete the search process without each one of them.

We also want to thank our lead pastors, staff, and elders for their honest input, discernment, and wisdom that helped us all see and understand how the Lord is moving us forward as a church.

As we enter into this new season, we want to continue to be a prayerful church. Please pray that Curtis, Shelly, and their family experience the love, grace, peace, and goodness of God as they move into this new opportunity and responsibility.

Also, be praying that our church grows in unity as we have called Curtis as our new Senior Pastor.  As Jesus said to his disciples in John 17 regarding unity together, that the Lord Jesus would make us one, as He and the Father are one, so that in our unity, we will testify to the world that Jesus has loved us and sent us to be a witness of the good news of Christ Jesus in St. Louis, the rest of our region, and to the ends of the earth.

In Christ,

The Journey Board of Elders
