The Journey Hanley Road Worship Team Auditions

Hanley Road is holding open auditions for the worship team on Saturday, November 10, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Hanley Road sanctuary.

We hold auditions to increase the body and creativity of the worship ministry at The Journey Hanley Road. Bringing new people with different backgrounds, cultures, gifts, and experience to our team helps us do a better job of shepherding people toward holistic worship. By holistic worship, we mean giving all of who we are to God in response to who He is and what He's done for us through Christ Jesus. But auditions are just the first step in a process.

As we get to know you, our goal is to discover and encourage your unique abilities, both musical and personal, and to determine if the worship ministry is where God wants to use you to serve His church. At the end of the process, we hope that you are connecting with a gospel-centered community, whether that is a community group or elsewhere, serving the church in an area suited to your gifts and calling, and are being encouraged by the words of Colossians 3:17, “...whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of our Lord Jesus, giving thanks to the Father through Him.”

With that in mind, here is some general information about who we are and what we are pursuing together as a team, along with some basic requirements for involvement.

The Hanley Road worship team is a group of people that are committed to Christ, Community, and Craft. These core values shape all that we do together, on Sundays and throughout the week.

Christ: With thankfulness and harmony, we worship Christ as one body, peacefully surrendering to His word and rule over our hearts. Worship team members must be regular attenders or members of The Journey who:

  1. Profess faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord
  2. Actively seek to follow Jesus in every area of their lives
  3. Respond to confrontation/conviction of sin by repenting, believing the gospel, and walking in God’s ways

Community: We listen, learn, love, and lead one another to cultivate individual and team flourishing. Worship team members:

  1. Rehearse from 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday nights
  2. Play and/or sing on Sunday mornings from 7 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on a rotating basis
  3. Encourage and challenge one another in our faith journeys

Craft: We discover, develop, and deploy skillful artists to exhibit undistracted excellence.

  1. Regular attenders can serve as instrumentalists. To lead from the microphone, you must be an active member of The Journey. Vocal leadership (singing and/or speaking) carries with it a degree of influence in our Sunday gathering that requires a formal commitment to the vision, mission, and pastoral leadership of The Journey.
  2. Worship team members are able to learn and play songs in a band context with a baseline degree of musical competency as determined by the worship leadership team. Each week, instrumentalists/vocalists are required to listen to arrangements, pick out parts (with the aid of a basic chord chart), and play rhythm or lead lines (or sing lead or background vocals). At times, if necessary, sheet music is made available for orchestral members.
  3. Worship team members must have access to the internet and an email address. This is our primary source of communication to the team.
