GOOD FRIDAY

Friday, March 30 | 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Journey Kids will be offered during our 5:30 p.m. service for infants through 1st grade.
There will be no Journey Kids at our 7 p.m. service.

One of the most significant moments in the gospel story surrounds the betrayal, arrest, and crucifixion of Jesus. In his death, Christ bore the full weight of our sin. Through his death, we have been given life. In remembrance, we will be holding two services on Friday, March 30.

Our Good Friday services this year will be a bit unique. As we worship the Lord and remember his life-giving death on the cross, we will be "slowing down" and spending nearly half of the hour-long service on the sacrament of communion.

In groups of 6-8, the congregation will make their way to one of the communion tables at the front or back of the sanctuary, and kneeling, will receive communion together with an elder and a member of our Response Team. Our prayer is that this will be a time to savor in our hearts the beauty and generosity of Jesus' sacrifice.

Parents who bring their children into the service will have an amazing opportunity to tell and show their children what communion means.  But if children are not used to our practice of weekly communion or haven't had it explained to them, it may be a confusing hour. Our recommendation is:

  1. For parents to give some thought and prayer to how they will explain communion to their children. This short video by Phil Vischer (creator of the children's series What's In the Bible?) may help you begin thinking about how you want to approach this conversation.
  2. For parents to give thought and prayer to whether their child is ready to take communion themselves. At The Journey, we believe that anyone taking communion should be able to do so with some basic understanding of Jesus' death on their behalf, and should have a sense that they are part of God's people, for whom Jesus died.

Finally, if there are any questions about worship on Good Friday, about communion, or about talking to kids about the Jesus or communion, please don't hesitate to reach out to us!
