HR | Changed Service Times and Equip Classes Launch
Beginning September 8, Hanley Road will be changing its service times to 8:30 and 11 a.m.
This change allows us to increase opportunities for Christian education here at Hanley Road. God commands us to know His Word deeply; in Deuteronomy 4:6-7, we hear: "And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise."
Equip Classes (like Sunday School) will be open to all in between service times (from 10-10:45). These classes are dedicated spaces for individuals to learn and be built up in faith, hope, and love in Christ by trained and capable teachers. Classes will run for a fall session (September to November) and spring session (February to April) with a break in between. In order to make this class accessible for those with young children, we will be using the following childcare system: each person in the class will sign up for one date when they will help watch the kids of the parents in the class. We hope by spreading this ask out that it will not inhibit class participation. Childcare will be offered through 2nd grade.
This fall, we'll be offering two Equip Classes: Core Christianity (a discipleship pathway built by Journey's 3:14 Institute) and Generous Justice. In each, there will be individual reflection, peer discussion, and expert teaching.
Core Christianity is a year-long course (with two parts) in Christian Scripture, Christian Theology, and Christian Maturity. This teaching will help individuals see the unified storyline of the Old and New Testaments, understand the Christian world view, be able to explain basic Christian theology to others, and help disciples walk in maturity.
Core Christianity will meet in the basement classroom in our church. Simply walk down the stairs by the parking lot entrance, wind around the basement hallway, and enter the third door on your right.
Generous Justice is a St. Louis contextualized companion to Tim Keller's book Generous Justice. Students will be able to arm themselves with a scriptural understanding of justice and what it means to serve a just God. The class members will rely on God to transform their hearts, so that hope and redemption might be brought to an unjust and broken world through the power of the Holy Spirit. This class is for those seeking healing and hope as they encounter a fallen world, those who want to deepen their understanding of God's grace and character, and for those who want to have nuanced, justice-related conversations with brothers and sisters in Christ.
Generous Justice will meet in the chapel room on the main floor of our church. This room is to the right of the men's and women's restrooms when you are facing the restrooms.
Once you have registered for an Equip Class, you should receive a welcome email with instructions on how to access class documents.
In summary, the Sunday morning schedule moving forward will run:
8:30 a.m. - First Service
10 -10:45 a.m. - Equip Classes
11 a.m. - Second Service
