Missionary Mindedness

  • Creating an environment where children are safe, loved and cared for

  • Where every child feels welcome and included

Developmental Appropriateness

  • Engaging children at every age and stage of development

  • Experiencing joy as kids learn about Jesus together

We are a community serving together to cultivate the gospel in the next generation.

  • We strive to provide age and developmentally appropriate classrooms and lessons.
  • We want our kids to hear about God’s love for them in ways that are fun and engaging.
  • When your child enters their Journey Kids classroom, they will be greeted by a team member who will make them feel welcome.
  • During their time in Journey Kids, your kids will have time for creative free play at the beginning and end of each class, but they will also have structured time to worship. They will learn the truths of the gospel through song and by participating in an age and developmentally appropriate lesson while also participating in fun activities intended to help apply the truths they have learned.

What do I need to know before visiting Journey Kids?

When you arrive, look for signs directing to the Journey Kids area or ask any staff member or volunteer team member to direct you to the Journey Kids check-in area. If you are visiting us for the first-time, one of our team members will meet your family and help get your household registered in our check-in system. Once registered and checked-in, a team member will help you get your kids to their rooms and connected with other Journey Kids team members and families. The initial registration and check-in process will take some time, so we recommend arriving 15 minutes prior to service.

What safety procedures do you have in place?

For your child's safety and your peace of mind, we:

  • Run background checks on all volunteers.
  • Staff each room with no less than two team members at all times.
  • All of our snacks are dairy, egg, and nut free
  • Provide a security tag for your child and ask for the parent's portion of the security tag before releasing any child at check-out.
  • A paging system is available for easy contact in case you are needed for any reason in your child’s room

What if my child needs me during service?

The alphanumeric code on your parent pick-up tag that you were given at check-in will appear on the bottom of the large screens in the sanctuary. If you see your number on the screen, that’s your cue to discreetly slip out of your seat and go back to your child’s room.  But be sure to bring your parent pick-up tag with you--your child will not be released without it.

What is your policy on sick children?

We request that you do not drop your children off at Journey Kids if they have any of the following symptoms:

  • A temperature of 100 degrees or higher in the last 24 hours
  • Diarrhea or vomiting in the last 24 hours
  • Severe or persistent coughing
  • Colored nasal drainage (not due to allergies)
  • Any infection of the eye, nose, or throat (pink eye, strep throat, etc)
  • Head lice
  • Undiagnosed rash
  • Open skin lesions
  • Any communicable disease
  • If a child is on an antibiotic, he or she must be on the medication for at least 24 hours before attending Journey Kids.  Please note that we do not administer medication to children.

Do you ever close rooms?

Our desire is that every child who comes to The Journey would be able to participate in Journey Kids. As a ministry to children, we prioritize children’s safety, creating an engaging learning environment and providing our team members with the opportunity for meaningful relationships with the kids they lead. This means two leaders can’t oversee a room of 20 two-year olds!  :)

In order to accomplish those priorities we have specific child-to-adult ratios set for each room.  While we do our best to include every child each weekend, that is not always possible.  Maximum capacities are set based on physical space, volunteer team members, and the fire code.

How can I serve in Journey Kids?

Each week hundreds of Journey Kids team members across our churches invest in children by teaching, leading, and caring for those in Journey Kids. We would love for you to join us! There are opportunities to serve on the weekends as well as behind the scenes.  Email one of our staff team to find out more information on how you can get involved.

Ask a question.

Have a question that isn't listed? Email a member of our Journey Kids staff team and let us know!
